This song was written the Summer of 2020 during quarantine. The song is pretty literal actually. About a friend who get’s piss drunk at bars, is all over you in a extremely flirtatious way
but is also dating someone else so when it goes too far you’re fucked. That being said, you like him/her so much that you stick around till last call every single time cause you know you’re gonna have to baby sit, find rides, make sure he/she gets home safe etc. But the times it DOES go too far (drunk bar make-out sesh) you get a text the next day saying “leave me alone” after you drunk text “I think I love you” at 3am. Am I the only one that happens too? I doubt it. Anyhow, these types of “friendships” are obviously doomed across the board. Trust is broken constantly, it’s always uneven, the problem list goes on and on. Also this song has the most kind of like straight references sonically, Duran Duran, Milli Vanilli, The Grateful Dead and early Brit Pop can be picked out LOL! I really LOVE all types of bands! The drum beat is basically every Milli Vanilli song, I think they used the same beat for every other song and the solo is literally a Jerry tribute and totally intentional. I’m a massive deadhead and every time I’ve seen The Dead in every lineup (minus the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s) no sound makes me happier than that distinctive envelope filter Jerry Garcia solo sound rolling though a venue. It’s a hard sound to use and not have it turn people off cause The Dead are SO either “I love them” or “I hate them”. I saw an opportunity to use it both sonically and the notes themselves and really actually meditate and channel Jerry here. Obviously I don’t give a shit who thinks that lame or not lame ha. It’s the part I’m most excited about on the whole record and I can’t wait to share it and point it out to all my Dead fan groups that I belong to LOL!
